Method
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy (3-4 minutes).
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips and nuts (if using) with a spatula.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart.
- Bake 9–11 minutes until edges are golden brown and centers are set but soft.
- Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Notes
For chewier cookies, use more brown sugar and slightly underbake. For crispier cookies, use more granulated sugar and bake until golden throughout.
