Ingredients

  • 4 medium apples
  • 4 wooden sticks or skewers
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon white food coloring
  • Edible glitter for decorating

Method

  1. Wash and completely dry the apples, then insert wooden sticks into the tops.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
  4. Cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves, then bring to a boil without stirring.
  5. Continue cooking until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  6. Remove from heat and carefully stir in vanilla extract and white food coloring.
  7. Dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, turning to coat evenly.
  8. Allow excess candy to drip off and place apples on parchment paper.
  9. While still tacky, sprinkle with edible glitter.
  10. Let apples cool completely until the candy shell hardens.

Notes

Work quickly once the candy reaches temperature, as it hardens fast. Make sure apples are fully dry for best adhesion.
