Method
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared sheet.
- In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring until it boils (about 3–4 minutes). Stir constantly to prevent burning.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Pour caramel evenly over crackers and spread with a spatula.
- Bake for 5 minutes until bubbly and golden. Remove and cool completely for 20–30 minutes (or chill for 10 minutes in the fridge).
- Break into pieces and enjoy. Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
Notes
Stir caramel constantly to avoid burning. Let candy cool fully before breaking to keep it crisp. For gifting, layer pieces in tins or bags lined with wax paper.
