Indulgent Southern Banana Cobbler That'll Lift Your Spirits

The viral Southern banana cobbler made with simple pantry ingredients—tender caramelized bananas baked into a soft buttery base with a crackly pecan streusel topping.

Ingredients

  • 4 –6 very ripe bananas sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract optional
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup self-rising flour for streusel
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 3/4 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In a bowl, whisk sugar and self-rising flour.
  3. Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  4. Whisk until smooth.
  5. In another bowl, mix brown sugar, flour, oats, and pecans.
  6. Cut in softened butter until crumbly.
  7. Pour batter into a greased baking dish.
  8. Layer banana slices evenly over batter without stirring.
  9. Sprinkle streusel topping over bananas.
  10. Bake for 45–50 minutes until golden and bubbling.
  11. Cool for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use very ripe bananas for best flavor. Do not stir layers. Toast pecans beforehand for deeper flavor. Best served warm.
