Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp peppermint extract
  • Food coloring optional
  • Granulated sugar for rolling
  • Optional: vanilla almond, or lemon extract; vegan cream cheese; plant-based butter; natural food coloring

Method

  1. Beat softened cream cheese and butter with an electric mixer until smooth and fluffy (2-3 minutes).
  2. Add peppermint extract gradually, adjusting to taste.
  3. Slowly mix in powdered sugar, one cup at a time, until a stiff, workable dough forms.
  4. Divide and add food coloring if desired, kneading until evenly distributed.
  5. Shape mixture into ¾-inch balls or press into decorative molds.
  6. Roll in granulated sugar or flatten gently with a fork for ridged patterns.
  7. Arrange on parchment paper and let dry 12–24 hours until firm on the outside with a creamy center.

Notes

Always bring cream cheese and butter to room temperature to prevent lumps. Gradually add sugar for best texture. Allow full drying time for the perfect creamy-firm consistency.
