Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 sticks unsalted butter room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon red or pink food coloring
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond or strawberry extract optional
  • 1 1/2 cups Valentine’s sprinkles

Method
 

  1. Mix flour, baking powder, salt, and sugars in a stand mixer.
  2. Add butter gradually and mix until dough forms.
  3. Mix in vanilla extract.
  4. Divide dough in half; color one portion pink or red.
  5. Roll each dough portion into rectangles between wax paper.
  6. Chill dough sheets for 1 hour.
  7. Stack dough layers, roll jelly-roll style, and trim edges.
  8. Roll dough log in Valentine’s sprinkles.
  9. Wrap and chill for 2–3 hours.
  10. Slice into rounds and bake at 350°F for 15–17 minutes.

Notes

Keep dough chilled at every stage for clean swirls. Use a sharp knife for slicing and press sprinkles firmly into the dough before chilling.
