Ingredients
  

For the Beef Mixture
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 tbsp hoisin or sweet chili sauce
  • Garlic shallots, ginger paste, lemongrass
  • Chinese five spice black pepper
Fresh Components
  • Rice paper wrappers
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • ½ cup bell peppers sliced
  • Cucumber julienned
  • Fresh Thai basil leaves
Optional Add-Ins
  • Cilantro green onions
  • Roasted peanuts
  • Lime juice chili paste

Method
 

  1. Cook beef with black pepper over medium heat until browned.
  2. Add garlic, ginger, lemongrass, five spice, and shallots; cook until fragrant.
  3. Stir in soy sauce, sweet chili sauce, and lime juice; cook 5 minutes.
  4. Prepare vegetables and wash Thai basil.
  5. Soften rice paper in warm water for 10–15 seconds.
  6. Layer basil, beef, and vegetables in center of wrapper.
  7. Fold sides and roll tightly like a burrito.
  8. Serve immediately with dipping sauce.

Notes

Do not oversoak rice paper or overfill rolls. Wrap finished rolls individually if storing to prevent sticking.
