Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract or almond extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Food coloring optional
  • Sprinkles or sanding sugar optional

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  3. Add egg and vanilla (or almond extract), mixing until fully combined.
  4. Sift flour and salt together, then gradually mix into wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  5. Optional: Divide dough and knead in food coloring for festive variations.
  6. Load dough into a cookie press and press shapes onto an ungreased baking sheet. Decorate with sprinkles as desired.
  7. Bake 6–8 minutes until edges are set but not browned.
  8. Cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, do not grease the baking sheet—spritz cookies adhere better and maintain their shape. Chill dough briefly if too soft to press.
