Ingredients
  

  • 7 tablespoons butter softened
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon red gel food coloring
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup red sanding sugar
  • 18 Hershey's Chocolate Kisses unwrapped

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg yolk, vanilla, and red gel food coloring; mix until combined.
  4. Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt; add to wet mixture and mix just until combined.
  5. Roll dough into 18 balls, coat in red sanding sugar, and place on baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes until edges are set.
  7. Press a Hershey’s Kiss into each cookie immediately after baking; cool before serving.

Notes

Use gel food coloring for the best vibrant red shade. Avoid overmixing the dough to keep the cookies tender.
