- Wash the oranges thoroughly and zest them to collect 2–3 tablespoons of fresh orange zest.
- Slice the oranges into even 1/4-inch thick rounds and remove any seeds.
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar and water and heat over medium until the sugar fully dissolves.
- Add lemon juice and half of the orange zest to the syrup and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Add the orange slices and simmer for 10–15 minutes, turning occasionally.
- Remove slices and place them on a wire rack lined with parchment paper.
- Sprinkle the remaining orange zest over the slices.
- Let dry at room temperature for 4–6 hours or until tacky but not sticky.
Notes
Do not over-simmer the orange slices to avoid a mushy texture. Fresh zest is essential for maximum citrus flavor.
