Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Grease or line a 9x13 baking pan.
- Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt.
- Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
- Add dry ingredients in batches alternating with buttermilk.
- Mix until just combined.
- Spread batter evenly into pan.
- Bake for 22–25 minutes until golden and set.
- Brown butter until golden and nutty.
- Whisk in powdered sugar, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt.
- Add milk until glaze is pourable.
- Pour glaze over warm bars.
Notes
Use freshly grated nutmeg for best flavor. Do not overmix or overbake. Pour glaze while both bars and glaze are warm for best texture.
