Ingredients
  

  • pounds ground lamb or beef
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 medium carrots diced
  • 1 cup frozen green peas
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme
  • 2 pounds russet potatoes peeled and chopped
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • ½ cup milk

Method
 

  1. Boil potatoes in salted water until fork-tender.
  2. Drain and mash potatoes with butter and warm milk until smooth.
  3. Brown ground meat in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add onion, garlic, and carrots and cook until softened.
  5. Stir in tomato paste, flour, and Worcestershire sauce.
  6. Add beef broth and simmer until thickened.
  7. Stir in peas, season with salt, pepper, and thyme.
  8. Transfer meat mixture to a baking dish.
  9. Spread mashed potatoes evenly on top.
  10. Bake at 400°F until golden and bubbly.
  11. Broil briefly for a crisp top if desired.
  12. Let rest before serving.
