Best Classic Candied Orange Slices Recipe

These candied orange slices are stunning translucent citrus rounds coated in sugar, perfect for garnishing desserts, cocktails, and holiday treats.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 large navel oranges
  • 4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 extra cup granulated sugar for coating
  • 6 cups water

Method
 

  1. Wash oranges and slice into 1/8-inch rounds.
  2. Place slices in a saucepan with water and bring to a boil.
  3. Simmer for 15 minutes, then drain.
  4. Return slices to pan with sugar and fresh water.
  5. Heat until sugar dissolves, then bring to a gentle boil.
  6. Reduce heat and simmer 45–60 minutes until slices are translucent.
  7. Transfer slices to a wire rack to drain.
  8. Let dry at room temperature 12–24 hours or in a low oven.
  9. Roll dried slices in sugar to coat.
  10. Let set until fully dry, then store.

Notes

Do not skip blanching to remove bitterness. Slice evenly for best texture. Store in airtight container for long shelf life.
