Ingredients
  

Cookies
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp almond extract optional
Royal Icing
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp meringue powder
  • 4 –6 tbsp warm water
  • ½ tsp clear vanilla extract optional
  • Gel food coloring pastel shades
  • Edible pearls or sprinkles optional

Method
 

  1. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract and mix well.
  4. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until dough forms.
  5. Chill dough for at least 1 hour.
  6. Roll dough to ¼-inch thickness and cut shapes.
  7. Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 8–10 minutes. Cool completely.
  8. Prepare royal icing by beating powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water until smooth.
  9. Color icing, decorate cookies, and allow to dry overnight.
