Ingredients
Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- Combine cubed bread and diced apples in a large mixing bowl.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, milk, eggs, vanilla, and melted butter until smooth.
- Pour the custard mixture over the bread and apples, stir gently to coat, and let rest 10 minutes.
- Transfer mixture to the prepared baking dish and bake 45–50 minutes until golden brown and set in the center.
- Prepare optional glaze by whisking powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over warm bread pudding.
- Cool 10–15 minutes before serving for best texture.
Notes
Use firm apple varieties like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best texture. Always use day-old or lightly toasted bread for proper custard absorption. Avoid overbaking to maintain a soft, custardy interior.
