Sweet Basil Seed Drink Recipe

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 3-4 servings 1x

Description

A naturally cooling and nutrient-rich drink, this Sweet Basil Seed Beverage blends ancient tradition with modern wellness using lemon, spices, and soaked sabja seeds for ultimate refreshment.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons sweet basil seeds (sabja/tukmaria)
  • 45 cups filtered water
  • 23 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 34 tablespoons sugar or rock sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Ice cubes
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon crushed cardamom (optional)
  • Rose water (optional)
  • Honey (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse 2 tablespoons basil seeds under cool water. Soak in ½ cup lukewarm water for 15–30 minutes until swollen and gel-coated.
  2. Heat ½ cup water with 3–4 tablespoons sugar until dissolved. Cool completely.
  3. Squeeze 2–3 tablespoons lemon juice and strain.
  4. In a large pitcher, mix cooled syrup, lemon juice, 1 teaspoon salt, and optional spices or flavorings.
  5. Strain soaked basil seeds and add to mixture. Add 3–4 cups cold water. Stir well to combine.
  6. Serve immediately over ice or refrigerate for 30 minutes for extra chill. Stir before serving.

Notes

Use coconut water for added electrolytes or add pineapple juice for tropical flair. Always soak seeds thoroughly and strain before adding for best texture.
