Description
These soft and flavorful sourdough tortillas are made with a sourdough starter for extra depth of flavor. Perfect for tacos, wraps, or quesadillas, they are easy to make and require minimal ingredients!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat flour)
- ½ cup sourdough starter (discard or active)
- ⅓ cup warm water
- 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
- ½ tsp salt
Instructions
- Mix the dough: In a large bowl, combine flour, sourdough starter, warm water, oil, and salt. Mix until a rough dough forms.
- Knead: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Rest: Cover and let the dough rest for 30 minutes to 2 hours (longer rest gives better flavor).
- Divide and roll: Divide the dough into 8-10 equal portions. Roll each ball into a thin circle about 6-8 inches wide.
- Cook: Heat a dry skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook each tortilla for about 30-45 seconds per side until lightly browned and puffy.
- Keep warm: Stack the cooked tortillas and cover them with a clean towel to keep them soft.
- Serve: Enjoy fresh or store in an airtight container for later use.
Notes
- For a tangier flavor, let the dough ferment overnight in the fridge.
- Use whole wheat flour for a heartier texture.
- Store tortillas in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
