Description
This salsa recipe with fresh tomatoes is the perfect blend of sweet, tangy, and spicy. Quick, fresh, and flavorful—this homemade salsa elevates any meal and is ready in just 15 minutes. Great for dipping, topping, and customizing to your taste.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 ½ cups chopped fresh tomatoes (or one 28-ounce can diced tomatoes)
- ¼ small onion, finely chopped
- ⅓ cup fresh cilantro, roughly chopped
- 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
- 1 small jalapeno, seeds removed and finely chopped
- ½ tsp ground cumin
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp sugar
Instructions
- Chop the fresh tomatoes and place them in a strainer. Let them sit for 5 minutes to remove excess liquid.
- Finely chop onion, jalapeno, and cilantro. Remove jalapeno seeds to control spice.
- In a bowl, combine tomatoes, onion, cilantro, jalapeno, lime juice, cumin, salt, pepper, and sugar. Mix gently.
- Taste and adjust seasonings. Add more lime juice or jalapeno for extra tang or spice.
- Let the salsa sit for at least 10 minutes to allow flavors to meld. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
Substitute canned tomatoes if fresh are unavailable. Use parsley instead of cilantro, or lemon juice instead of lime for variation. Letting the salsa rest enhances flavor. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
