Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey/chicken)
- 1 cup Quaker Oats (old-fashioned rolled oats)
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup milk (or broth for more flavor)
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon ketchup (for mixing)
- 1/2 cup ketchup (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground meat, Quaker Oats, egg, milk, onion, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
- Transfer the meat mixture into a greased loaf pan. Shape it into a loaf using your hands.
- Bake for 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) when tested with a meat thermometer.
- Add the topping: Spread the 1/2 cup of ketchup over the top of the meatloaf during the last 10 minutes of baking.
- Once done, remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
- Serve with mashed potatoes, vegetables, or your favorite side dish.
Notes
- For a leaner option, you can use ground turkey or chicken instead of ground beef.
- You can add vegetables like finely chopped bell peppers or carrots for extra flavor.
- If you prefer a different glaze, barbecue sauce or honey mustard can be used in place of ketchup.
- Make sure to let the meatloaf rest before slicing to avoid it falling apart.
