  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 810 cakes 1x

Description

A homemade take on the classic Little Debbie Zebra Cakes! These soft yellow cakes with a creamy filling are coated in white chocolate and finished with signature chocolate stripes. A perfect treat for nostalgic snack lovers and baking enthusiasts alike.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Filling:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Coating:

  • 12 oz white melting wafers or white chocolate
  • ½ cup chocolate chips, melted (for stripes)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Cake:

    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
    • In a large bowl, mix cake mix, melted butter, milk, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
    • Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 18–20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
    • Let the cake cool completely before cutting.
  • Make the Filling:

    • In a bowl, beat softened butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
  • Assemble the Cakes:

    • Cut the cooled cake into small circles using a cookie cutter.
    • Spread filling on one cake circle and top with another to create a sandwich.
  • Coat the Cakes:

    • Melt the white chocolate wafers and dip each cake sandwich, ensuring an even coating. Let excess drip off.
    • Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let set.
  • Add the Zebra Stripes:

    • Melt chocolate chips and drizzle over the cakes in a zigzag pattern using a piping bag or spoon.
  • Chill & Serve:

    • Let the cakes set in the fridge for about 20 minutes before serving. Enjoy!

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • Freeze for up to 3 months; thaw before serving.
