For the Beef Mixture
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 tbsp soy sauce or tamari
- 1 tbsp hoisin or sweet chili sauce
- Garlic, shallots, ginger paste, lemongrass
- Chinese five spice, black pepper
Fresh Components
- Rice paper wrappers
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- ½ cup bell peppers, sliced
- Cucumber, julienned
- Fresh Thai basil leaves
Optional Add-Ins
- Cilantro, green onions
- Roasted peanuts
- Lime juice, chili paste
Instructions
- Cook beef with black pepper over medium heat until browned.
- Add garlic, ginger, lemongrass, five spice, and shallots; cook until fragrant.
- Stir in soy sauce, sweet chili sauce, and lime juice; cook 5 minutes.
- Prepare vegetables and wash Thai basil.
- Soften rice paper in warm water for 10–15 seconds.
- Layer basil, beef, and vegetables in center of wrapper.
- Fold sides and roll tightly like a burrito.
- Serve immediately with dipping sauce.
Notes
Do not oversoak rice paper or overfill rolls. Wrap finished rolls individually if storing to prevent sticking.
