Homemade fig jam recipe in glass jar showing chunky texture with fig seeds and pieces on wooden surface

Fig jam is easy to make with no canning required!

  • Total Time: 60 minutes
  • Yield: 2-3 cups 1x

Description

This easy homemade fig jam recipe uses just 4 ingredients and no canning! Naturally sweet, simple, and ready in under an hour – a perfect addition to cheese boards, breakfasts, and desserts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds fresh, ripe figs (Black Mission, Brown Turkey, or Kadota)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ cup water

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the figs, remove stems, and cut into small pieces.
  2. In a bowl, mix figs and sugar and let sit for 30 minutes to draw out juices.
  3. Transfer to a saucepan, add lemon juice and water, and bring to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  4. Simmer for 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally and mashing larger pieces until jam thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
  5. Perform the wrinkle test with a chilled plate to check consistency. Remove from heat and skim foam.
  6. Transfer to sterilized jars, leaving ¼-inch headspace, and store appropriately.

Notes

Use ripe, fresh figs for best results. Add cinnamon, orange zest, or vanilla for extra depth. Store in fridge for 3 months or freeze up to a year.
