Ingredients
Scale
For the Doughnuts:
- 3 ½ cups (440g) all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- ¾ cup (180ml) warm milk (110°F/45°C)
- ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- ¼ cup (57g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)
For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:
- ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
Instructions
1. Prepare the Dough
- In a small bowl, mix the warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the eggs, softened butter, vanilla extract, and the activated yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 ½ hours, or until doubled in size.
2. Shape the Doughnuts
- Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about ½-inch thickness.
- Cut into strips (about 6 inches long and 1 inch wide). Twist each strip and pinch the ends to hold the shape.
- Place the twisted dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
3. Fry the Doughnuts
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the doughnuts in batches for 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
4. Coat with Cinnamon Sugar
- Mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon in a shallow dish.
- While the doughnuts are still warm, toss them in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat evenly.
Notes
- Ensure the milk is warm (not hot) to properly activate the yeast.
- For extra softness, allow the dough to rise in a slightly warm oven (turned off).
- Best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
