- 1/2 cup butter, room temperature
- 1/2 cup butter-flavored shortening
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Pink food coloring
- Pink sprinkles
Instructions
- In a large bowl, beat butter, shortening, powdered sugar, egg, and vanilla until creamy.
- Add flour and salt and mix until a smooth dough forms.
- Divide dough into two equal portions.
- Leave one portion plain and tint the other with pink food coloring.
- Roll each dough portion into a 1/4-inch thick rectangle of equal size.
- Place one rectangle on top of the other and roll tightly into a log.
- Roll the dough log in pink sprinkles to coat evenly.
- Wrap and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Slice dough into 1/4-inch cookies and place on a lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 11 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
Notes
Chilling the dough is essential to keep the cookie shape and defined swirls. Do not overbake to maintain a soft texture.
