4th of July Cake Pops: A Patriotic Treat for Your Memorial Day Celebration

  • Total Time: 4 hours 30 minutes
  • Yield: 24 cake pops 1x

Description

Celebrate Memorial Day with these festive 4th of July cake pops—moist cake balls dipped in patriotic red, white, and blue candy coatings, decorated with sprinkles and stars for a sweet, colorful tribute to our nation’s heroes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box vanilla or yellow cake mix (plus eggs, water, and oil as directed)
  • 1/2 cup vanilla frosting
  • 16 oz white candy melts or white chocolate
  • 8 oz red candy melts
  • 8 oz blue candy melts
  • Assorted patriotic sprinkles (red, white, and blue)
  • Lollipop sticks (6-inch)
  • Optional: edible star decorations or red, white, and blue sanding sugar

Instructions

  1. Bake cake in a 9×13-inch pan according to package instructions and let cool completely.
  2. Crumble cooled cake in a large bowl and mix with frosting gradually until it holds together but isn’t overly moist.
  3. Roll into 1-inch balls using a tablespoon and smooth between palms.
  4. Chill balls on parchment-lined sheet in fridge for 2 hours or freeze for 30 minutes.
  5. Melt each candy color in separate bowls, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth. Add shortening to thin if needed.
  6. Dip lollipop stick tips into melted coating and insert halfway into each cake ball, then chill again for 5-10 minutes.
  7. Dip pops into candy coating, fully covering. Tap gently to remove excess and immediately decorate with sprinkles.
  8. For designs, dip in white and drizzle red/blue, or create stripes or swirls using other colors.
  9. Stand upright in styrofoam or egg carton to dry completely.
  10. Display in themed containers with tissue paper for festive presentation.

Notes

Keep cake balls small and chilled to prevent them from falling off sticks. Store decorated pops in an airtight container at room temperature for 1–2 days, or refrigerate up to a week.
